Moldovan Parliament approved today the agreement which lifts taxes and fees from trade relations with countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). The Agreement on Free Trade Zone within CIS does not go against the European integration of Moldova, MP Igor Corman said.<\/p>\n

Contrary to the statement, Communist lawmakers welcomed the approval of this bill saying it is a step forward towards Moldova’s accession in the Eurasian Union which is due to emerge in 2015. It will include a Customs Union between Russia-Belarus-Kazakhstan. Some other former soviet republics, members of CIS, were also invited to join.<\/p>\n

Moldova has been officially asked by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev to join Eurasian Union.<\/p>\n

Russian Premier emphasized that such membership should come as the state’s national interest and that it cannot be imposed. This is valid for both the European Union and the free trade zone of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).<\/p>\n

“Participation in any integrated structure must be voluntary, not imposed, and taken in line with the national interest. Same thing is valid for the Customs Union, the free trade zone of the CIS or the European Union,” Dmitry Medvedev said.<\/p>\n

The Communist Party of Moldova is a strong supporter of this project. They wanted to initiate a national referendum to ask people whether the country should join the Customs Union. The initiative was rejected by the speaker of Parliament Marian Lupu.
