Communist Party of Moldova (PCRM) demands the resignation of President of Parliament Marian Lupu. The initiative will be debated on Thursday during the first Parliamentary session of this fall after the deputies’ summer vacation.<\/p>\n

The Communists accuse the speaker of the Parliament of overstepping his duties while he was asked by PCRM to organize a national referendum on whether Moldova should join the Russia-led Customs Union. Marian Lupu rejected the initiative to organize it.<\/p>\n

Moldova has been officially asked by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev to join — also-called — Eurasian Union which is due to emerge in 2015.<\/p>\n

Russian Premier emphasized that such membership should come as the state’s national interest and that it cannot be imposed. This is valid for both the European Union and the free trade zone of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).<\/p>\n

“Participation in any integrated structure must be voluntary, not imposed, and taken in line with the national interest. Same thing is valid for the Customs Union, the free trade zone of the CIS or the European Union,” Dmitry Medvedev said.<\/p>\n

Communist Mark Tkaciuk said that Marian Lupu committed a penal law-breaking by not taking into account the PCRM’s initiative. Tkaciuk’s party has submitted a request to the Prosecution Court to investigate the case.<\/p>\n

Moldova has been working very hard recently to bring the state’s legislation in line with the EU.<\/p>\n

Vlad Filat has previously stated that Moldova will not join the Customs Union because his state has another pathway – the European integration.<\/p>\n

“Republic of Moldova has set a very clear goal. This aim is the European Union integration, which erases from the beginning the possibility to join another community,” Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat said in May this year.<\/p>\n

The current ruling coalition (AIE) which has enough mandates to vote the bills within the Parliament does not have the Communist Party’s support. During the spring-summer sessions, the Communists boycotted the meetings several times.
