Moldova has made progress on its European pathway. This is suggested by the President of the European Commission José Manuel Durão Barroso who said that by the end of 2013 Moldova and the EU might conclude the negotiations on the Association Agreements.<\/p>\n

“I hope that by the 3rd Eastern Partnership Summit, which will take place next year, more of these Agreements will be concluded, notably with Moldova,” Mr. Barroso said in Brussels on Tuesday during the Annual Conference of EU Heads of Delegation.<\/p>\n

He emphasized that the EU supports the countries that wish to strengthen democracy and “open economies through a joined up approach EEAS\/Commission.” According to him, the European Commission has started negotiations on Association Agreements with four out of six members of the Eastern Partnership which includes Moldova, Ukraine, Belarus, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia.<\/p>\n

Moldovan Premier Vlad Filat welcomed Mr. Barroso’s statement saying that his words confirm the efforts of his Government.<\/p>\n

“The statement is a frank one. It exists and it does not let anyone to make any speculations. It is a very important thing when the President of the European Commission says that the negotiations with the Republic of Moldova are about to be concluded until the Eastern Partnership Summit. I consider his statement as an appreciation of the work done in Chisinau,” Moldovan Prime Minister said.<\/p>\n

If signed, the Association Agreement will significantly deepen Moldova’s political association and economic integration with the European Union.
