 German Chancellor Angela Merkel is in Moldova today for a couple of hours. She was met at the airport by the Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat with military honors. The two officials travelled to the State Residency where a meeting was held. The session was followed by a joint press conference which started at 3 PM.<\/p>\n

“We have reviewed the actions related to the bilateral relations. Germany has unconditionally supported our country,” the Moldovan Premier Vlad Filat said.
\nThe German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that it has been a pleasure to come to Chisinau. According to her, the bilateral relations between Moldova and Germany are very good.<\/p>\n

“The relations have developed very well. This is explained by the group of businessmen who came with me,” Ms. Merkel emphasized. The German official came together with some 50 businessmen and journalists.<\/p>\n

“Moldova is a pillar in the Eastern Partnership. We apply the “more for more” principle. We know that the members of your Government are fully involved,” Angela Merkel said.<\/p>\n

Being asked what her solution is for the Transnistrian conflict, Ms. Merkel stated that the Moldovans should have patience and take it step by step. She thinks that the free movement of persons and the contacts between people of both banks of Nistru River are the most important features at the moment.<\/p>\n

“The 5+2 talks are the good format. It is important the EU members states to get involved, as well. We have to move forward step by step. We need to have patience in this process,” Angela Merkel pointed out. “The free movement and contacts between people are more important at the moment,” the German Chancellor said.<\/p>\n

She welcomes the 5+2 talks which have been resumed after six years of hiatus. Angela Merkel is hopeful that the new 5+2 talks in September will bring more results.<\/p>\n

Vlad Filat said that Moldova is glad to have such a reliable friend: Germany.<\/p>\n

“Moldova has chosen. This choice is Europe,” the Premier said.<\/p>\n
