Mircea Snegur, the first President of the Republic of Moldova, agrees with the decision of the Parliament to interdict communist symbols. He notes that this symbol “is associated with the totalitarian regime and its actions against innocent people”, writes tribuna.md quoting the interview published by “Moldavskie Vedomosti”.<\/p>\n

“Our citizens suffered as well, especially after the occupation of June28, 1940. Everybody remembers about it, except perhaps the younger generation that grew in the years of independence. That’s why I think that the condemnation of the communist regime, together with its symbols, is fully justified”, notes the first President of the Republic of Moldova.<\/span><\/p>\n

Therewith, Snegur claims that it wouldn’t be fair not to acknowledge good things were done for our country during the Soviet period. Mircea Snegur specifies that good things have mostly been made possible due to people’s work capacity, not due to the party role.<\/span><\/p>\n

As regards the initiative of Liberal Democratic Party deputies on condemning all totalitarian regimes, Mircea Snegur thinks that after its adoption it will clarify all things and will answer to the question whether the communist ideology can be made equal to that fascist.
