Jennifer Brush, the Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova visited the northern district of Camenca which is one of the poorest regions on the left bank of the Nistru River, region affected by drought.<\/p>\n

“We might not be able to directly provide assistance to the affected area, but the OSCE can help to inform the international community about their needs,” Jennifer Brush said.<\/p>\n

The OSCE official met with the head of Camenca district. According to an OSCE press release, the parts had talks on several issues such as the involvement of the region in European projects, the economic situation, the perspective of its population and the amount of damage inflicted by the storms and the drought.<\/p>\n

Ms. Brush also paid a visit to a church under reconstruction in Valea Adinca and had a look at the peacekeeping forces at Checkpoint No. 9 at Vadul lui Voda. On January 1, 2012, a Moldovan 18-year-old boy was fatally shot at that place.<\/p>\n

The day after these trips, the OSCE official met with his Holiness Metropolitan Vladimir, the Head of the Moldovan Orthodox Church.<\/p>\n

“I appreciate the opportunity to meet with his Holiness, as it is important for me to meet the relevant actors and stakeholders on both banks of the Dniester\/Nistru. The church has a unique position in Moldova. It stands for traditions and values, cherished on both sides of the river, and is an important partner in a process of reconciliation after the conflict,” Ms. Brush said after the meeting.<\/p>\n

According to a press release, the sides discussed about the reconstruction of churches on both sides of the Nistru River, land restitution after the independence of the Republic of Moldova, the relationship with the Metropolitan of Bessarabia and possible future co-operation with Orthodox charity organizations.
