The Communist Party representatives said they will not give up their symbols.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;These symbols do not belong to us. They are historic. We have not only the sickle and the hammer [on the logo], but also the book. What would happen then with it?&rdquo; the head of the Communist Party said.<\/p>\n<p>The Liberal-Democrat lawmakers want to come up with another draft law to prohibit not only the Communist symbols, but also &ldquo;to politically condemn the illegal actions of the totalitarian regimes: Nazism, Stalinism, Communism, which committed crimes against humanity by genocide, deportations, organized famine, forced collectivization and political repression.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The Socialists from Moldova have another perspective of the issue. They warn the Liberal-Democrat Party with protests if the Soviet memorials will be dismantled.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The fight against poverty, economy development and creating jobs should become Moldova&rsquo;s priority, not the hunt for memorials and symbols of the past,&rdquo; the Socialists said. They added that &ldquo;if such a bill will be enacted, the members of the Socialist Party will be among the main organizers of the demonstrations against the demolition of the memorials of the Great War for Homeland&rsquo;s Defense (Second World War).&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The Socialists addressed an appeal to the Democrat Party and Liberal-Democrat Party of Moldova to stop the &ldquo;madness&rdquo; and withdraw the initiative concerning the demolition of the monuments.<\/p>\n<p>After the law on the ban of the Communist symbols was voted, the Communists and the Socialists left the Parliament as a protest.<\/p>\n<p>The Head of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu regrets that the Communism wasn&rsquo;t condemned earlier at an International Court.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It is a big mistake for Europe not to condemn the Communists in the same way the Nazis were in Nuremburg Trial. In the previous century not only the Moldovans suffered, but also Ukrainians, Russians and all who lived here. The sickle and hammer are the symbols for which innocent people were deported to Siberia and killed,&rdquo; the Liberal deputy said.<\/p>\n<p>The Liberal Party was the one to initiate this bill and had it passed within the Parliament with 53 votes out of 101.<\/p>\n<p>Early today in Moldova&rsquo;s northern city of Balti, two Soviet memorials were vandalized.
