Some say the Moldovans speak &lsquo;Moldavian language&rsquo; while others &ndash; Romanian language.<\/p>\n<p>Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrei Marga said that Romania does not accept the so-called &lsquo;Moldavian language&rsquo;, referring to the draft law debated in Ukraine which differentiates Romanian by the Moldavian language.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;There are no differences between the Moldavian and Romanian languages. It is reasonable to simply say that only one Romanian language exists, which is spoken in different regions, of course, with accents, but this is another issue,&rdquo; Andrei Marga said.<\/p>\n<p>The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine felt obligated to reply to the statement of Andrei Marga.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Ukraine should respond to such statements. I wonder on what basis a State official of another country [makes such claims] that we do what we do on the territory of Ukraine? This concerns the provision of regional status as Romanian and Moldavian languages. The Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania can be seen as direct intervention in the internal affairs of another State,&rdquo; Denis Denisov, Deputy Director of the Ukrainian branch of the Institute of CIS said, quoted by Baku Today.<\/p>\n<p>Ukrainian Parliament adopted a bill on the fundamentals of the State language policy &ldquo;in the first reading, since nearly 50% of Ukraine&rsquo;s population speaks Russian,&rdquo; according to the source. The law claims Ukrainian to be the only state language, but it also adds that on the Ukrainian ground the use of regional languages is guaranteed. This includes: &lsquo;Moldavian&rsquo;, Romanian, Russian, Belarusian, Bulgarian, Armenian, Gagauzian, German, Modern Greek, Polish, Slovakian and Hungarian.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The problem of Moldova to Romania is very painful. In Romania there are radical nationalists who do not consider Moldova an independent State and do not recognize the Moldovans as a nation. Of course, they do not recognize the Moldavian language as a separate language. Although it should be remembered that all the historical written sources say the opposite-most likely derives from the Romanian language in Moldova, but not vice versa,&rdquo; the official from the Institute of CIS said.<\/p>\n<p>According to historians, the name of Moldavian language was given by the Russian authorities in 1812 to the Romanian language which was spoken in Moldova. Current Constitution of Moldova adopted in 1994 states that Moldavian is the official language in the Republic of Moldova. However, the linguists disagree with the statement contesting that article from the Constitution.
