NATO member states are able to help Moldova settle its conflict in Transnistria. The statement belongs to Mihai Ghimpu, Deputy and Head of the Liberal Party of Moldova who recently returned from Tallinn where was held the Parliamentary Assembly of NATO.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Radio Free Europe\/Radio Liberty (RFE\/RL), Mihai Ghimpu said he talked about the Transnistrian conflict with NATO officials and had an informal talk on the issue with Deputy Undersecretary-General of NATO.<\/p>\n

“There are countries, members of NATO which can as states tackle the issue outside NATO Assembly. NATO is the Alliance which pleads for peace and security. I think that the countries interested in providing peace and security to their citizens, if they want, they can find the ways to touch the issue concerning the withdrawal of the Russian troops from our territory,” Mr. Ghimpu said.<\/p>\n

The Liberal Deputy said he has already addressed several times to Russia to withdraw their weaponry and troops, but Russia seems not to care.<\/p>\n

“They told me they are not going to withdraw their army and ammunition because NATO got closer to the borders of Russia,” Mr. Ghimpu told RFE\/RL.<\/p>\n

According to him, the NATO officials told him that the conflict in Transnistria has to be settled within the “5+2” negotiation talks.<\/p>\n
