Chemical castration of pedophiles has been approved with Parliamentary vote during today’s session. Previously the Moldovan President rejected the law saying that such measures are way too harsh and anti-constitutional.<\/p>\n

The draft bill was voted again today getting 56 votes. It will be enacted when the law appears in the Gazette of the Republic of Moldova.<\/p>\n

According to the law, rapists and pedophiles will be chemically castrated after a trial and the punishment will be applied during the last three months of their imprisonment.<\/p>\n

Amnesty International condemned the initiative saying that the statesmen have defied the fundamental right of physical and psychical inviolability, the right of not being tortured or abused.<\/p>\n

“The international agreements regarding the human right prohibit expressly the torture and inhuman treatments, fact followed by the Supreme Law of the Republic of Moldova. It is obvious that the enactment of forced medical procedures is equal to an inhuman treatment,” Amnesty International said in a press release.<\/p>\n

Chemical castration is made by administering of anti-hormone medication in order to lower the level of testosterone. According to studies, the main effect is the reduction libido, potency and sperm production. It also weakens any deviant behavior.<\/p>\n

According to Ion Dumbraveanu, doctor at Republican Hospital from Chisinau, the drug should be injected every three months.
\n“From a medical perspective, if it is not administered once in three months, the effect is null,” said Mr. Dumbraveanu.<\/p>\n

Currently the chemical castration is being done in the American states of California and Florida, Denmark, the United Kingdom, Germany, Russia, Canada, Sweden, Poland, Czech Republic and now the Republic of Moldova.<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
