Significant reforms have been made in all public sectors of the Republic of Moldova. The assessment was given in a public report by the European Commission yesterday presenting the implementation of the new European Neighborhood Policy adopted in 2011.<\/p>\n

“Negotiations on a future EU-Republic of Moldova Association Agreement continued at good pace and the EU agreed in December to launch negotiations on the establishment of a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) as an integral part of the Association Agreement negotiations. Despite some delays in the adoption of important legislation and a considerable number of implementation problems following important law-making activity in 2010, the Republic of Moldova made good progress in almost all areas of the Action Plan,” shows the EU report.<\/p>\n

Nonetheless, the European Commission drafted a list of reforms and adjustments which Moldova still has to implement. Among them the country is invited to strengthen the efforts to implement the justice and law enforcement reform strategies, with a focus on human rights protection and the urgent need to curb corruption. The Commission also recommends ending the investigations and judicial action in connection with the April 2009 events.<\/p>\n

Concerning the Transnistrian problem, the Moldovan Government is urged to engage in a “pragmatic dialogue with Tiraspol” in order to efficiently settle the conflict.<\/p>\n

Another issue concerns the institutional reform of the aviation sector.<\/p>\n

The European Union welcomes the decrease of the unemployment rate from 7.4% to 6.6%. According to the report, the Government approved a National Action Plan on Employment, project which improved the Moldovan economy.<\/p>\n

Dirk Schuebel, the Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova said that the country has to adjust to some European regulations in order to get closer to the European Union.<\/p>\n

“We consider that the new laws will improve the Moldovans’ lives. You do these things for yourselves, not for the EU,” Dirk Schuebel said.<\/p>\n

“Moldova is, without doubt, a good example for other partners within the Eastern partnership,” said Stefan Fule, the EU Commissioner for Enlargement in a press conference yesterday while presenting the report.
