Russia has a new Ambassador to Moldova. Farit Mukhametshin, the new Ambassador appointed by the Russian President, presented his letters of accreditation to the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday, the press service of the Ministry informs.<\/p>\n

Mr. Mukhametshin had talks with the Moldovan Foreign Minister Iurie Leanca concerning Moldovan-Russian co-operation in political, economic and humanitarian realms, as well as the conflict in Transnistria.<\/p>\n

“The counterparts mentioned the importance of keeping the positive dynamic of their bilateral co-operation on multiple levels and emphasized the need to continue the co-operation in joint interest domains,” informs the Ministry in a press release.<\/p>\n

Mr. Mukhametshin was appointed as Ambassador to Moldova after former Russian diplomat Valeri Kuzmin was recalled. Recently, the Moldovan Ambassador to Russia, Andrei Neguta was also recalled. His withdrawal took place because of discordant comments.<\/p>\n

Farit Mukhametshin began his diplomatic career in 1990. From 2003 to 2008 Mr. Mukhametshin was Russia’s Ambassador to Uzbekistan. Between 2008 until 2012 he was the Special Representative of Russia for the Commonwealth of the Independent States (CIS). He has a PhD in Political Science.
