Moldova resumed the railway traffic across Transnistria after six years of hiatus. The agreement was made between Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat and the leader of Transnistria Evgheny Shevchuk. The railway traffic implies the transportation of passengers and goods through the separatist territory.<\/p>\n

The European Union has already expressed its voice, welcoming the event.<\/p>\n

“The EU welcomes the resumption last week of freight rail traffic through the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova. It is first of all a crucial step forward for restoring confidence between the sides to the Transnistrian issue,” said the spokesperson of Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.<\/p>\n

The statement adds that the event is excellent news for the business community and the people living on the two banks of Nistru.<\/p>\n

“We are pleased that technical expertise from the EU helped come up with a practical solution,” the European spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

The OSCE Mission to Moldova has also issued a statement on the topic. The Head of the organization Jennifer Brush said the railway agreement shows a new level of trust between sides.<\/p>\n

“I welcome the positive impact this agreement will have on people’s everyday lives, facilitating faster travel for all, and more efficient and economical transport of goods and services," Ambassador Jennifer Brush said.<\/p>\n

The OSCE official also welcomed the two sides’ announcement that they had found common ground on several other issues related to the medical and communication sectors.
