Dmitry Rogozin, Russia’s envoy to Transnistria said in an interview for Kommersant newspaper that the talks regarding the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict with the Moldovan statesmen can be held if they are ‘real patriots’ of the Republic of Moldova.<\/p>\n

“If they are heading towards Romania, Russia won’t be able to help them maintain their territorial integrity, no matter how much we would like that to happen. Not only the Transnistrian region, but also other regions of the Republic of Moldova won’t agree to join Romania,” Mr. Rogozin said.<\/p>\n

He added that the Moldovan statesmen have to decide whether they are Moldovans or Romanians.<\/p>\n

“If they identify themselves as Romanians, then the borders should be others,” the Russian official stated.<\/p>\n

Being asked about how welcoming was Chisinau during his visit, Mr. Rogozin said he found hard-headed politicians, who are aware of the necessity of improving the relation with the Russian Federation.<\/p>\n
