The “5+2” actors involved in the talks on the conflict in Transnistria reached an agreement today in Vienna during the second round of negotiations. The actors which participated are the Moldovan and Transnistrian Chief Negotiators Eugen Carpov and Nina Shtanski, as well as representatives of the mediators and observers.<\/p>\n

The agreement refers to drafting of the principles and procedures for the conduct of formal negotiations, as well as the agenda for the process.<\/p>\n

Erwan Fouéré, the Special Representative of the Chairperson-in-Office for the Transnistrian settlement process, welcomed today’s achievement.<\/p>\n

“I welcome the agreement on the principles and procedures and the agenda for the conduct of negotiations in the Transnistrian settlement process. I commend the sides for showing the needed political will and positive spirit to reach a consensus on these very important issues,” said Ambassador Fouéré, who chaired the meeting.<\/p>\n

“I urge the participants to build on the results achieved here to make further progress towards a comprehensive political settlement,” said the official, according to an OSCE press release.<\/p>\n

The content of the agreement is confidential and cannot be shared with the media, Sarah Crozier, the Press and Public officer of OSCE told Moldova.ORG.<\/p>\n

The next official talks in format “5+2” will also be held in Vienna in July.<\/p>\n

The “5+2” format includes representatives of the sides, mediators and observers in the negotiation process which are Moldova, Transnistria, the OSCE, the Russian Federation, Ukraine (as mediators), the US and the EU (as observers).<\/p>\n

Official negotiations were resumed in November 2011 following a hiatus of almost six years.
