A new conflict took place today at Vadul lui Voda checkpoint between Moldova and Transnistria after the Transnistrian peacekeepers tried to re-establish the barriers which were put down at the beginning of 2012. The barriers were removed in January after a teenager was shot to death by a Russian peacekeeper deployed at the security post number 9.<\/p>\n

Although the Unified Control Commission has previously decided to remove the barriers from Vadul lui Voda, the peacekeepers tried to put them back, but they were unsuccessful because some civilians opposed the action.<\/p>\n

“I crossed the bridge from Vadul lui Voda early today and I was surprised to see those barriers again. I thought that after the Unified Control Commission’s promises, the situation will become stable, but unfortunately these soldiers do whatever they want,” Petru Bondari, an inhabitant of Cosnita village told Moldova.ORG.<\/p>\n

The information was confirmed by Anatol Croitoru, the President of Culture and Law Association “Transnistria”: “There has been an altercation today in the morning. The peacekeepers have installed several pillars. After 30 minutes the police officers of Dubasari County removed them. There are no more tensions at the moment, but the situation might swell at any time. As long as the so-called peacekeepers will stay here, we won’t have peace,” Anatol Croitoru told Moldova.ORG.<\/p>\n

The alleged Transnistrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a press release today to express its concern regarding the situation at the ‘border’.<\/p>\n

“These actions are considered provocative. They are threats against the agreements signed within the Unified Control Commission; they unsettle the social situation of the villages from the left bank of Nistru River and swells the potential conflict between Moldova and Transnistria,” the press release informs.<\/p>\n

The Moldovan authorities did not issue a statement in this regard yet.<\/p>\n

OSCE Mission to Moldova didn’t want to comment on the situation yet, saying they are on the ground and are looking into the case.<\/p>\n
