Moldova’s Foreign Minister Iurie Leanca met with the US Senator John McCain yesterday in Washington in a two-day long visit of the Moldovan statesman to the capital of the USA.<\/p>\n

The Moldovan official emphasized the need for US support in advancing on the line of their diplomatic relations.<\/p>\n

„The Moldovan authorities want a qualitative evolvement of the bilateral political partnership between the Republic of Moldova and the United States of America and the establishment of a permanent trade regime with the US,” according to a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration from Moldova.<\/p>\n

Senator McCain took the commitment to support the efforts of withdrawing the Jackson-Vanik Amendment. According to him, the United States is heavily interested in the successful transformations within the ex-Soviet region. John McCain visited Moldova in June 2011 after Moldova’s Prime Minister Vlad Filat sent him an official invitation.<\/p>\n

The Jackson-Vanik Amendment was signed in 1974 and it was intended to affect the American trade relations with the countries of the former Soviet Union that prohibit the freedom of emigration and some other human rights.
