The Transnistrian conflict should be settled in line with international documents, the Moldovan president Nicolae Timofti said in an interview for Timpul daily newspaper, cited by Moldpres news agency.<\/p>\n

"I have nothing against the Russian people. The problems between us should be solved proceeding from the principle of equality," said the Moldovan President.<\/p>\n

According to him Moldova must maintain traditional, economic and friendly relations with Russia.<\/p>\n

"It is needed to have a balanced stance, which we should incline to our benefit. I and other Moldovan officials must express one single position everywhere we go in order to be regarded as a country able to defend itself," said the President of Moldova.<\/p>\n

Nicolae Timofti stated that the Transnistrian administration should end the warnings and start to cooperate.<\/p>\n

"We should lift all the barricades between us, to build bridges over the Dniester and to live for the common interest of the Republic of Moldova. Russians should withdraw their ammunitions from our country, because Moldova is a neutral state. The army needs to be replaced with a civil control mission able to guard our peace without tanks and aircraft," said Mr. Timofti.<\/p>\n
