The Transnistrian conflict is brought back to the negotiation table. On February 28, the 5+2 format negotiators will gather in Ireland’s capital of Dublin to hold a two-day meeting. The actors involved are Moldova, Transnistria, the OSCE, Russia, Ukraine, the United States and the European Union.<\/p>\n

“During the meeting, the principles and procedures for the conduct of negotiations will be discussed. This is only the second official meeting in the 5+2 format following a nearly six-year hiatus,” informs OSCE in a press release.<\/p>\n

The first round of negotiations resumed in November 2011 after five years of stalemate.<\/p>\n

Transnistria is a breakaway region of the Republic of Moldova. It went apart after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. In 1992 the conflict between the separatists and the Government from Chisinau escalated, resulting in hundreds of deaths. The ceasefire established in July 1992 stimulated the parties to negotiate the settlement of the conflict.<\/p>\n
