The European leaders are expected to arrive today in Brussels at the first European Council meeting for this year. The European officials will discuss about the way to resolve the debt crisis within the European Union. A special attention will be paid to Greece. All the European countries, but the United Kingdom are expected to sign a fiscal union.<\/p>\n

The German newspaper Der Spiegel says that the German Chancellor Angela Merkel had hoped that Monday’s EU summit would focus exclusively on finalizing her plan to impose budget discipline across the 27-member bloc. Problems in Greece, however, may hijack her headlines, adds the German paper.<\/p>\n

Euronews informs that the EU leaders will also focus on the way to create jobs for the young generation.<\/p>\n

“In a bid to tackle the bloc’s rising unemployment numbers the summit wants to focus on creating jobs and growth. Leaders are likely to announce up to 20 billion euros of unused funds from previous budget years that will be redirected towards job creation especially among the young,” writes Euronews on its website.<\/p>\n

After his arrival, the Finish Prime Minister, Jyrki Katainen told the press that today they will try to find solutions to overcome the economic difficulties and find methods to create jobs. “We have to find suitable compromises for Greece and for all the European countries. We’ll concentrate on the economic growth,” said Mr. Katainen.<\/p>\n

Despite of the high level meeting in Brussels, the country went on a 24-hours-long strike. Eurostar transporters stopped their activity between the main European points. Some of the officials’ journeys may have been affected by the situation.
