Chisinau \/ Moldova.org \/ —  The Republic of Moldova will join the European Union, but not very soon. First, the conflict from Transnistria has to be solved. The statement was made by Michael Sternberg, the Danish ambassador to Romania, accredited to Moldova, as well.<\/p>\n

In an interview for the Romanian news agency NewsIn.ro, the ambassador said that we need time in order for the conflict to be solved.<\/p>\n

“Encouraging is the fact that the ‘5+2 format’ bargaining have been restarted after many years. It is a new life in Transnistria; there have been held elections, Smirnov wasn’t elected; there are many signals that Transnistria is heading to the right direction,” Michael Sternberg said.<\/p>\n

The ambassador thinks that it is the EU’s responsibility to take the necessary measures in order to find a solution.<\/p>\n

“The Transnistrian conflict is a European issue, a frozen conflict; we don’t want frozen conflicts inside the European Union anymore,” explained Mr. Sternberg.<\/p>\n

On the other side the ambassador welcomed the reforms implemented by the Moldovan government. Moldova “is probably the best example of the Eastern Partnership and hardly tries to rise to the required criteria,” added the politician. “They have some other issues, but they’re a young democracy which is trying to follow its own way; they have committed politicians.
