Chi\u015fin\u0103u \/ Moldova.ORG \/ — Today the Beltsi city Appeals Court had been hearing the petition of Communist Party of Republic of Moldova (CPRM) which demands to annul the results of the recent local mayor elections from the 19th of June. The CPRM states that the right of secret voting had been violated during these elections.<\/p>\n

Recall that, according to the results of Chisinau elections on 19 June, the Liberal candidate Chirtoaca was declared the winner, having gained 50.6% of the votes, while his opponent, the Communist Igor Dodon – 49.4% of the votes. Thus the Liberal candidate Chirtoaca had become a Moldovan capital mayor.<\/p>\n

In its turn CPRM filed a complaint that the elections of June 19 had been falsified. The Communist Party appealed to the Supreme Court of Justice with a request to refer the case to the Appeals Chamber from another city, due to the fact that, as the Communists assume, Chisinau Appeals Court was not unprejudiced in its decision to refuse the Third round of local elections.<\/p>\n

As a result, the Appeals Court of Beltsi, the second largest city in terms of area and economic importance after Chisinau, examined the case and finally has made the following decision – Chirtoaca is the new mayor of Chisinau. His mandate is a valid one. There won’t be any third round in Chisinau.<\/p>\n

This has led to accusational comments from the CPRM’s repesentative Igor Dodon, who said that the juries were under pressure making their deceision. CPRM refuses to accept its defeat.<\/p>\n

Chairman of Appeals Court of Beltsi city, Gheorghe Scutelnic, cannot agree with Mr. Dodon. He claims that the juries weren’t pressed by anybody, they were independent in this decision and they have never taken political orders.<\/p>\n

So apparently Chsinau has finally got its mayor, Dorin Chirtoaca.
