Chi\u015fin\u0103u \/ Moldova.ORG \/ — There was a capital’s election season in the Republic of Moldova. So the Moldovan capital, Chisinau, was in the expectation of the new mayor. The waiting has become a protracted process because of Communist Party of Republic of Moldova (CPRM) refusal to accept its defeat.<\/p>\n

Communists’ representative, Igor Dodon, didn’t get enough votes to become a capital’s mayor. According to citizens’ voices this position belongs to liberal candidate, Dorin Chirtoaca, for the next four years.<\/p>\n

However, the Appeals Court of Beltsi, the second largest city in terms of area and economic importance after Chisinau, had to hear an appeal from the CPRM, according to which the results of the recent local mayor elections from the 19th of June were invalid. The CPRM states that the right of secret voting had been violated during these elections.<\/p>\n

The Appeals Court of Beltsi juries were Edward Ababii, Galina Polivenko and Nina Matveeva.<\/p>\n

During the trial’s hearing there stood a 100 men group of protesters in front of the courthouse. Their organizers explained the protest as a sign of concern that the Moldavian justice is not an independent one and that it is under pressure.<\/p>\n

These people were the CPRM members and it was obviously that they were attempting to influence the decision of the court, encouraging the people to chant and scan slogans about the need of independent and non-interfered justice in Romanian and Russian languages.<\/p>\n

Recall that the general mayor Dorin Chirtoaca had previously said that he would request to change the panel of judges due to the fact that one of the judges could be a godfather to communist deputy’s child. This deputy is Arthur Reshetnikov, former Director of Informational Security RM.<\/p>\n

"As I understand, one of the judges would be a godfather to comrade Reshetnikov," said Chirtoaca.<\/p>\n

After resuming the second round of local elections, Liberal candidate, Dorin Chirtoaca, was declared the winner and a new mayor, receiving 50.6% of the votes, and candidate-communist, Dodon, got 49.4%.
