The Moldovan Supreme Court of Justice chairman, Ion Muruianu, was dismissed today in Legislative session, by unanimous vote of the Alliance for European Integration members, for failure in meeting professional requirements described in the the Supreme Court of Justice Law.<\/p>\n

According to "Timpul" (a local daily), 8 of the 12 Supreme Judicial Council members voted for dismissal of the Supreme Court President, Muruianu. Great surprise was caused by the current Justice Minister, Oleg Efrim, giving his vote against Muruianu’s dismissal.<\/p>\n

"This decision could be a start for justice reform, including changes of personnel to refresh the pool of judges in a proportion as high as possible," said former Justice Minister and current Constitutional Court judge, Alexandru Tanase.<\/p>\n

At the Parliament meeting, the Liberal Party leader and former Moldovan Speaker, Mihai Ghimpu, demanded Muruianu’s dismissal from the position of the Supreme Court’s chairman and ordinary judge, also.<\/p>\n

Ghimpu’s proposal comes after yesterday’s decision, approved by the Supreme Court, to examine elections and Dorin Chirtoaca’s Mayor mandate validation at the Court of Appeal in Balti, a town in the North of Moldova, a communists’ stronghold.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
