The existence of the organization and its violent acts usually were held at the expense of sponsors.<\/p>\n

Al-Qaida for years relied primarily on donations as its main source of income, using its cash stream mostly for sustenance, including training, weapons, pay for operatives and their families and money for bribes and hideouts, officials said.<\/p>\n

But during some time until the death of the head of "Al Qaeda" "benefactors" have ceased to be so generous.<\/p>\n

Grouping had serious financial problems. Then, as we learned from American officials who knew the contents of documents and electronic files found in the last Osama bin Laden’s shelter in the Pakistani city of Abbottabad, Osama has turned to kidnapping for ransom to offset dwindling cash reserves.<\/p>\n

"As we have learned from these materials, Osama bin Laden admitted that the donations were sharply reduced," said, Deputy National Security Advisor for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism, and Assistant to the President, John Brennan.<\/p>\n

He wanted his officers to make more terrorist attacks, but they replied that his wishes exceeded their capabilities.<\/p>\n

The financial crisis, reached Osama Bin Laden, had several sources and causes. One of the reasons was, in fact, the global economic crisis which has influenced on the pockets of the terrorists’ sponsors.<\/p>\n

Another one – the successful actions of Western intelligence agencies set a serious limit to financial support for terrorists.<\/p>\n

According to the source, for many years the organization has relied on donors, who knew bin Laden ever since, when he helped the Afghan mujahedeen to fight the Russian in the 1980s, as well as those who were" inspired" by his propaganda.<\/p>\n

However, in the last few years, the U.S. Department of the Treasury Anti-terrorist Financing and British government blocked the flow of funds, freezing assets of about 500 people who were listed as sponsors of terrorism.<\/p>\n

The department’s former top official on terrorist finance Stuart Levey says that one of the causes of Al-Qaeda’s economic crisis was attacks of U.S. drones in Pakistan on extremists’ havens, resulting the killing of its "financial officer" Mustafa al-Yazid.<\/p>\n

In previous years, "Al Qaeda" paid their fighters about $ 100 a month. But recently the situation grew so dire that some operatives had to pay their own room and board, training and weapons.<\/p>\n

As a rule, "Al Qaeda" committed kidnapping in order to put forward political demands and to make propaganda effect. But in recent years fighters have ceased to shun the purely financial benefits of kidnapping.<\/p>\n

\nRecall leader of "al-Qaeda," for which the United States hunted 10 years, was killed by U.S. special forces raid in Pakistan’s Abbottabad on the night of May 2.<\/p>\n
