These statements are nothing but absurdities meant to create a state of tension in society,&quot; Volnitchi said.<\/p>\n<p>Igor Volnitchi said the strategy contains no word about counties, mayoralties&#8217; closure or other measures of this kind.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;On the contrary, the strategy&#8217;s goal is to give more autonomy to the regions, create new opportunities for the local development, offer more freedom of action to the local authorities and drive the services closer to the citizens,&quot; Volnitchi said.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that decentralization and local autonomy are among the government&#8217;s priorities, stressing that the national decentralization strategy is meant to ensure this priority&#8217;s practical implementation.<\/p>\n<p>Volnitchi said that a parity commission for decentralization and working groups had been earlier set up. &quot;I make this important specification in the context of the 27 April statements, alleging that the reform was not sufficiently consulted with the civil society and other important factors. The strategy was published, brought to the public&#8217;s knowledge, and each significant step to this end is consulted with those targeted by this reform,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p>The spokesman for the prime minister emphasized that the government has so far analyzed and assessed the real situation in the local public administration area. The cabinet also established the goals for each activity field, after which the necessary actions are to be identified, that would help achieve the expected results.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Thus, gradual actions are proposed to implement the strategy, elaborate sector-related roadmaps per concrete areas liable to decentralization, by ensuring authentic local autonomy: social protection, health, education, public order, public transport, infrastructure, local economic development, youth and sport, culture, environment, etc. In a word, we will do our utmost to bring the services as close to the citizens as possible, in order to have truly developed regions,&quot; Igor Volnitchi said.<\/p>\n<p>As for the oppositions&#8217; allegations on a possible return to counties, he said that it is not within the government s remit to do this via strategies. Volnitchi underlined that Moldova&#8217;s territorial and administrative organization is provided for in the law with same name, and only the parliament may take a final decision on the law&#8217;s amendment.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The reform initiated by the government in this field is of maximum importance and responsibility. This is one of the basic reforms that are to ensure a good development of Moldova in the long run. From this viewpoint, we come out with an appeal to the political formations to abstain from statements which may affect the good implementation of the reform, especially now that we are in full swing of the electoral campaign.
