The Security and Information Service (SIS) found no proofs pointing at the fact that the April 2009 post-electoral riots were staged as a coup d’etat, the SIS deputy director, Valentin Dediu.<\/p>\n

Dediu said that on 6 April 2009, most SIS officers left home, which proves that the service did not foresee an eventual coup d’etat. He also stressed that the statements by some politicians that foreign forces allegedly involved in the 2009 riots are groundless. "Romanian interest groups were not involved in the events," Dediu said.<\/p>\n

Interior Minister Alexei Roibu pointed out that the law enforcement bodies did not react promptly and did not work out an additional plan to ensure the public order. "Those who were in charge of ensuring public order and citizens’ safety, Papuc, Botnari and Zubic, did not intervene to stop the perpetrators and did not demand the summoning of the Security Council", the minister said.<\/p>\n

He added that on the night of 7 to 8 April, former Interior Minister Gheorghe Papuc ordered acts of violence, followed by the apprehension of peaceful protesters, some of whom only were passers-by watching the events. Afterwards, the MAI leadership took a wait-and-see stance.<\/p>\n

According to Roibu, twelve policemen were dismissed following a request by the General Prosecutor’s Office (PG) and another 25 law enforcers at the MAI’s initiative. Subsequently, they were re-appointed by courts. "The policemen were victims. Only those who were not in the hot spot were promoted," the minister said.<\/p>\n

Prosecutor General Valeriu Zubco said that a comprehensive report on the 2009 post-electoral riots was submitted to the parliament in the summer of 2010. He answered only the questions about the actions undertaken by the Prosecutor General s Office, stipulated in a parliamentary decision.<\/p>\n

In the context, Zubco told the lawmakers that prosecutors have established that in September 2009 a group of employees of the SIS destroyed 12 boxes with documents from the Presidency, at the indication of the SIS leadership. "Secret documents from the presidential councillors’ offices were also destroyed. The PG has no information about the destruction of the documents regarding the 7 April riots. Yet, this does not mean that those documents had not been destroyed", Zubco said.<\/p>\n

Talking to journalists during the break, the leader of the parliamentary faction of the senior coalition partner Liberal Democratic Party, Mihai Godea, expressed discontent with the unveiled reports, saying that the MPs had been told well-known facts. "We expect clear answers to a range of questions during Q&A sessions," Godea said.<\/p>\n
