After the meeting the two officials held a joint briefing, the government&#8217;s communications and press relations department has said.<\/p>\n<p>The top officials discussed Moldova&#8217;s European integration aspirations and the development prospects of the Moldovan-EU relations.<\/p>\n<p>Filat welcomed the dynamism in the development of the Moldovan-EU relations, mentioning that the Moldovan government is fully engaged in the talks on a Moldovan-EU association agreement. He noted the quality and the speed of the EU-Moldovan dialogue on the visa regime, stressing that the process had already reached the stage of implementation of the action plan on the liberalization of the visa regime and of the National Programme for the implementation of the action plan.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;After five rounds of talks, all the chapters have been temporarily completed and we are ready to pass to the next stage &#8211; the launch of negotiations on the creation of a deep, free and comprehensive trade zone,&quot; the premier said.<\/p>\n<p>Filat said that the Moldovan government had approved a comprehensive activity plan for 2011-2014, that represents an ambitious agenda. He expressed conviction that the first assessments of the activity in 2011 will be made at the Moldova-EU cooperation council due on 5 May.<\/p>\n<p>Referring to the action plan for the fulfillment of the key-recommendations of the European Commission for the implementation of a free and comprehensive trade zone with the EU, the premier reiterated that the Moldovan authorities rely on the European Commission&#8217;s support for the launch of negotiations on a free trade zone, as a part of the association agreement.<\/p>\n<p>The sides also broached the prospects of the Moldovan-EU dialogue on economic issues and regional security.<\/p>\n<p>The premier noted that Moldova highly appreciates the EU&#8217;s increasing contribution to bolstering confidence between the two banks of the Dniester river and welcomed the appointment of Miroslav Lajcak as EU representative in the five plus two negotiations. He also highlighted the important role played by the EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukrainian &#8211; EUBAM. The premier advocated the continuation of this mission, which had proved its efficiency by the achievements made so far.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Permanent and complex efforts are necessary to succeed in the settlement process,&quot; the premier said, reiterating the Moldovan authorities&#8217; willingness to continue the political dialogue with the Transnistrian representatives, in the five plus two format, as well as the implementation of confidence-building measures within the framework of the working groups.<\/p>\n<p>For her part, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton said that it was her first visit to Moldova and expressed conviction that it would not be the last one.
