Chisinau \/ Moldova.ORG\/ — Revolutions and mass protests that have extended across North African and Middle East countries during February might expand in Europe as well. <\/p>\n

Greece is protesting today against austerity measures adopted by the Government in 2010 to reduce the budget deficit and debt. Several institutions, stores and hospital are closed, along with the blockage of the public trasport and flights.
\nIn the spring of 2010, Greece has barely managed to avoid bankruptcy when the European Union and the International Monetary Fund agreed to give Athens an emergency credit line of 110 milliard euros. In November 2010 it was revealed that Greece’s budget deficit in 2009 was actually 15.4% of GDP and not 13.6% as previously reported.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

As anti-crisis measures, the Greek authorities have planned the restructuring and privatization of state enterprises, the backdown of unprofitable services and others.<\/p>\n

Among the most drastic measures were the increasement of taxes, reduction of the budget for salaries, pensions and allowances and the introduction of an income tax of 10% for the largest enterprises in Greece.<\/p>\n

The situation in North African and Middle East countries remains tense. The wave of mass demonstrations, started in the regions of Tunisia and has finished with the fact that president Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali was forced to leave the country.<\/p>\n

On the 12th of February under the pressure of anti-government demonstrations in Egypt, the president Hosni Mubarak resigned as president.<\/p>\n

Until now, mass demonstrations and clashes between protesters and security forces still continue in Libya, Yemen and Bahrain.
\nMuammar Gaddafi, the current libyan president declared that he is not going to resign.
