\nThe European Union provides assistance to Moldova in the form of supplying sophisticated equipment enabling to reveal false documents on the country’s borders, especially on the Moldo-Romanian border, it was said in the Press Club of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Delegation Political and Press Officer Dirk Lorenz said at the meeting that with the help of the Project on consolidating capacities and cooperation in determining false documents on the Moldo-Romanian border, the European Union has helped profiled Moldovan structures to build up their possibilities of reveling false passports and other documents.<\/p>\n

Launched in April 2009 to be completed in March 2011, the Project helped in curbing illegal migration, as the Moldovan personnel concerned was taught how to use all necessary advanced methods of determining document authenticity, Dirk Lorenz said, adding that quite many Moldovan border guards took part in such specialized trainings.<\/p>\n

Project Officer Monica Weber said that the Project is a constituent part of the Action Plan on visa liberalization for Moldova, and it permits to consolidate Moldova’s borders and national security.<\/p>\n

Grigore Mogurean of the Border Guard Service said that in 2010 the number of attempts to cross the Moldo-Romanian border with false documents on hands had diminished, but all the same Moldovan border guards revealed over 2 hundred such cases.<\/p>\n

"Moldova citizens forge most of all Romanian passports, Schengen visas, Polish work permits, and Greek residence permits", said Mogurean.<\/p>\n
