\nCommunist Party (MCP) Chairman and ex-president of Moldova Vladimir Voronin has stated the MCP could well agree to form a majority alliance with the Liberal Democrats of Premier Vladimir Filat.<\/p>\n

Voronin told journalists in parliament today that he had lately held several private meetings with Filat to discuss a wide circle of questions, including indeed the election of a president.<\/p>\n

"The Liberal Democrats have 32 mandates in parliament, we the Communists – 42. What’s the use of holding endless talks with tiny factions [Democrats have 15 mandates and Liberals 12], if we two possess a constitutional majority and are able to solve all problems – election of president, re-shaping of the structure of the Government, and lots of other things so vitally necessary for the country. In the conditions of a rapid deterioration of social situation, when prices and utility rates are soaring, Mr Filat should realize that he is going to face real problems at the forthcoming elections, if he fails to take correct decisions", said Vladimir Voronin.<\/p>\n

It is his opinion that a coalition of the parliamentary parties is quite possible in principle, so there should be no ideological problems even though the MCP is a Left party and the LDPM – a Right one.<\/p>\n

"In principle, the MCP, LDPM, DP and LP stand on same positions: we all support a market economy, the independence and sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova, and want to make all our citizens happy – at least such statements can be heard constantly. There may be no ideological problems between us. Even if we have not yet reached a consensus with Filat, we have arrived at a common conclusion that this political crisis has to be overcome", said the MCP leader.<\/p>\n

Voronin said that without the MCP faction, the majority Alliance for European Integration will not be able to elect a president, that he is not grasping for power and the president’s chair, that it is exactly Lupu who dreams of the post, and that if only Lupu’s dreams come true one day, "we will be unable to get rid of him next 30 years or so", the 70-year-old ex-president said with a smile.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
