\nThe parliamentary faction of the opposition Party of Communists (PCRM) submitted an inquiry to the Constitutional Court (CC), asking it to urgently interpret Article 90 of the Constitution on the deadline for the election of the president.<\/p>\n

PCRM jurist Sergiu Sirbu has told MOLDPRES that the inquiry was sent following many recent discussions and interpretations on the deadline for the election of the head of state.<\/p>\n

"Some politicians and analysts have said that the president should be elected in two months after the new parliament’s formation, i.e. till 28 February. Others say that the two months should be counted starting from the moment when the post of president became vacant, a deadline which has already expired," Sirbu said.<\/p>\n

The communist jurist said that the Constitutional Court should consider this note in two weeks at the most.<\/p>\n

On 22 January, the PCRM were to meet to decide whether they will participate in the president’s election. Sergiu Sirbu said that the Communists are likely to participate in the election of a new head of state till next spring, but on condition that the Communists are allowed to delegate most members of the Central Election Commission, the Audiovisual Coordination Council and the Chamber of Auditors.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
