\nThe leader of the former coalition party Our Moldova Alliance (AMN), Serafim Urechean, seeks the support of the ruling Alliance for European Integration 2 (AIE 2) for the office of Chisinau mayor. The statement came despite the fact that the AIE parties had announced intentions to put forward their own candidates at the local elections due in 2011.<\/p>\n

Serafim Urechean has told MOLDPRES that he might run for the office of Chisinau mayor as he enjoys the support of many Chisinau residents. He added that he would also like to be backed by the ruling coalition. "AIE 2 should have a common candidate for this position, but most likely the office of mayor will become a new bone of contention between the parties of the ruling coalition," Urechean said.<\/p>\n

He added that the Our Moldova Alliance was holding discussions on the upcoming local elections and that most probably it would work with the former AMN team at the Chisinau city hall.<\/p>\n

Asked by MOLDPRES to comment on these statements, the honorary chairman of the Democratic Party (PD), Dumitru Diacov, said that Urechean’s declarations sound funny. "The PD will have its own candidate for this post and I think that the competition will be harsh."<\/p>\n

The deputy chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM), Mihai Godea, said that the PLDM had repeatedly stated that it would put forward its own candidate. The deputy chairwoman of the Liberal Party (PL), Corina Fusu, said that most likely, the PL would nominate a candidate for this office, specifying that the party is going to decide whether it will be incumbent Chisinau mayor Dorin Chirtoaca or not.<\/p>\n

Local elections are to be held in Moldova in the summer of 2011, when Moldovans are expected to elect over 900 mayors and local, district and municipal councillors.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
