\nThe newly-elected parliament has interrupted its first meeting as the factions had failed to set up a parliamentary majority.<\/p>\n

The honorary chairman of the Democratic Party (PD), Dumitru Diacov, demanded a break, noting that the factions need more time to create a parliamentary majority. The chairperson of the meeting, senior MP Vladimir Voronin, announced that the next parliament meeting will be held on 30 December at 16:00.<\/p>\n

The legislative body managed however to take note of the Constitutional Court’s report, confirming the validity of the 28 November parliamentary election, and to set up four parliamentary factions.<\/p>\n

PD leader Marian Lupu said that the head of the Democrats’ parliamentary faction will be "the parliament speaker in person." Thus, Lupu suggested that he is the one to be elected speaker of the parliament. PD MPs Dumitru Diacov and Vladimir Plahotniuc were elected as deputy heads of the faction. At the parliament rostrum, Marian Lupu also said that "the PD is ready to give up the winter holidays and is willing to work."<\/p>\n

Maria Postoico was elected as head of the Party of Communists’ faction. Galina Balmos and Victor Mindru will act as deputy heads, and Tatiana Botnariuc as secretary.<\/p>\n

Mihai Godea will continue to serve as head of the faction of the Liberal Democratic Party. Valeriu Strelet and Mihai Sleahtitchi were elected as deputy heads, and Anghel Aghachi as secretary.<\/p>\n

Ion Hadirca will act as head of the Liberal Party’s faction. Corina Fusu was elected as deputy head and Valeriu Munteanu as secretary.
