\nMihai Ghimpu summed up his activity as parliament speaker and acting president. Ghimpu said he regrets that the present parliament failed to hold the last meeting, as the Communists opposed. He urged people not to cease to believe in democracy, as only it may lead to well-being.<\/p>\n

Mihai Ghimpu emphasized that the work of the present parliament was good, though short. "The present parliament was prevented from fulfilling its mandate because of the constitutional crisis. Therefore, it is very important that, the adopted laws meet the European and democratic norms."<\/p>\n

Ghimpu added that, while the first parliament adopted the first democratic law in 1991, the 2009-2010 parliament won back people s confidence in political parties. "This parliament will remain in history, as it laid the foundation stone to the construction of Moldova’s European path."<\/p>\n

At the same time, Mihai Ghimpu said that one of the failures of 2010 is the non-election of the president and poor cooperation between the parties within the Alliance for European Integration. Ghimpu said that he is proud of the fact that he had signed the "28 June" decree (declaring 28 June as day of Soviet occupation), although the decree was subsequently declared unconstitutional.<\/p>\n

The acting president said that today he will sign a decree fixing the date of the first meeting of the newly-elected parliament for 28 December. Mihai Ghimpu has held the office of acting president and parliament speaker since September 2009.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
