\nThe Constitutional Court (CC) has validated the mandates of 101 lawmakers of the parliament of the 19th convocation. At the same time, the CC issued a note, asking the parliament to amend the Election Code, so as to prevent infringements similar to the ones noticed during the election campaign that ended on 28 November.<\/p>\n

"The lawfulness of the election of Moldova’s parliament of the 19th convocation is confirmed," CC judge Petru Railean said, citing the Court’s note issued on the basis of the documents presented by the Central Election Commission (CEC) on the holdingof the parliamentary polls and the recount of votes on 15 December.<\/p>\n

In its decision, the CC confirmed the results of the 28 November snap elections, according to which the Party of Communists (PCRM) has 42 mandates, the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) 32 mandates, the Democratic Party (PDM) 15 mandates and the Liberal Party (PL) 12 mandates.<\/p>\n

In their pleadings, all the four representatives of the four parties which met the electoral threshold asked the Constitutional Court to validate the election’s outcomes.<\/p>\n

While taking into account the fact that the prosecution investigates a presumed multiple voting by a PLDM MP, Petru Stirbate, the PCRM representative, Serghei Sirbu, asked the Court to postpone the validation of Stirbate’s mandate. Yet, the CC turned down the request.<\/p>\n

CC head Dumitru Pulbere said that the documents adopted today will be sent to the editorial office of Monitorul Oficial (Official Paper) on 26 December, so as to be published on 27 December.<\/p>\n
