\nRestoration of trust between the Dniester River banks should promote the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, presumes Moldovan Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Andrei Popov.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, he took part in the international conference called "5+2: Perspectives of Resolving the Transnistrian Conflict" organized in Chisinau jointly by the Moldovan Institute of International Relations and the Hanns Seidel Stiftung Foundation.<\/p>\n

Popov said at the forum that the two parts of the country need to restore interaction in all fields, and Chisinau must do its utmost to make life in the mainland Moldova attractive for the residents of Transnistria.<\/p>\n

In his words, the conflict settlement requires political and diplomatic efforts, in a combination with international assistance within the 5+2 format. This year, he said, there appeared all prerequisites for a resumption of official negotiations.<\/p>\n

Andrei Popov said the Transnistrian conflict is easier to resolve as compared with other protracted conflicts because the Transnistrian dispute does not involve ethnic or religious differences or hostility between the grassroots on both Dniester River banks.<\/p>\n

Russian Federation’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Moldova, Valery Kuzmin, said that the past 20 years brought about quite many contradictions between Chisinau and Tiraspol, but the results achieved in 2010 are certainly positive compared with the deep crisis that remained over last several years.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
