\nThe Democratic Party (PD) conditions the creation of a pro-Western ruling alliance on the "consistency of the Liberal Democratic Party’s (PLDM) final offer." The Liberal Party (PL) criticized the PLDM’s offer too. At the same time, PLDM representative Alexandru Tanase said that the government’s structure was already discussed today during the seventh round of talks.<\/p>\n

The PLDM and PD leaders, Vlad Filat and Marian Lupu, did not attend the meeting and were replaced by Victor Bodiu and Valeriu Lazar.<\/p>\n

At the end of the meeting, which lasted more than two hours, PD representative Valeriu Lazar said that the offer unveiled by the PLDM on 21 December is not complete and everything depends on the consistency of the Liberal Democrats’ final offer. "We asked questions, and for the time being, it is not clear how things will look in the future government. I hope that we will receive this information on 23 December. We exchanged opinions about some institutional changes, which must be made. We did not discuss concrete distribution of offices. We are still debating the structure. But one of the criteria put forward by the PD is the one of continuity at the level of institutions."<\/p>\n

Lazar said that the PD does not hold negotiations either with the Party of Communists (PCRM) or with the PLDM and PL, noting that everything is still at the level of consultations. Yet, he specified that, in line with the European practice, even if the PCRM remains in the opposition, this party should hold state posts.<\/p>\n

PL leader Mihai Ghimpu said that what the PLDM presented is not an offer, but a point of view. "The PLDM did not win the election to thank us with 2-3 ministries. This is a proposal. None of us can govern the country alone. The PL expects, first of all, to revive this alliance, and then to work together in harmony, but not while taking into account the status in the government."<\/p>\n

Ghimpu said that, if the PL was in the PLDM’s shoes, "everybody would have met to discuss the next day [after the election]. Not as it happens now – they come out every day with something, so that the people see how generous they are and how discontented the others are."<\/p>\n

Liberal-Democrat MP Alexandru Tanase said that the participants in the today’s meeting discussed the structure of the future government and the powers of certain ministries. "We just had a technical-level discussion about the structure of the government and the affiliated agencies. Unless the talks are over, one cannot say anything exactly. We still cannot make public what ministry each side opted for. Yet, we say that each party outlined its options for the future government."
