The Statement authors called upon the international mediators and observers to help resolve the Vardanyan situation.<\/p>\n<p>The Moldovan authorities shall continue their efforts to liberate Moldova citizens Ernest Vardanyan and Ilie Cazacu and to provide support to their families.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, Moldova&#8217;s Political Representative at the Transnistria negotiations, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Affairs Victor Osipov received the mother of Ernest Vardanyan, Mrs. Tamara Shagoyan, who has come to Moldova from Armenia, where she lives.<\/p>\n<p>The woman said she was not permitted to attend the court session, so she learnt about the 15-year verdict only from her son&#8217;s lawyer on Thursday night. The following morning, she wrote a letter to Transnistrian president Igor Smirnov begging him to pardon her son.<\/p>\n<p>Victor Osipov told Mrs. Shagoyan that today he held &#8211; in the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau &#8211; a meeting with Tiraspol&#8217;s political representative at the Transnistria negotiations, region&#8217;s minister of foreign affairs Vladimir Yastrebchak and discussed with him the problem of Vardanyan and Cazacu, and demanded their immediate release.<\/p>\n<p>The Moldovan governmental Bureau for country reintegration reported after the meeting that the interlocutors had agreed to continue their dialog and quest of a solution to this situation.<\/p>\n<p>Infotag&#8217;s dossier: Transnistrian president Igor Smirnov has many a time stated that he has no relation whatever to Vardanyan&#8217;s detention, and said he was convinced that the impartial Transnistrian court will reach an objective conclusion, so everyone shall receive what he actually deserves.<\/p>\n<p>In parallel, Transnistrian minister of state security lieutenant general Vladimir Voronin Antiufeyev accused Chisinau of converting the Vardanyan case into a political show.
