\nThe new governing Alliance for European Integration (AEI) shall be able to elect President of Moldova even without the Communist Party (MCP), maintains the Liberal Party leader, Moldova’s Acting President Mihai Ghimpu.<\/p>\n

The politician announced on the ProTV Channel on Monday night that he has prepared a strong trump card for a situation if the MCP parliamentarians refuse to vote for changing the procedure of electing the head of state.<\/p>\n

"So far, however, I cannot tell the public what I actually mean, for I don’t want my trump to be used by the opposite camp", Mihai Ghimpu said mysteriously.<\/p>\n

He shouldered the entire responsibility for spinning out the formation of a governing alliance on the Liberal Democratic Party (LDPM) of Prime Minister Vladimir Filat.<\/p>\n

"Twenty-two days have already passed since the elections, but we haven’t done practically anything concrete. The LDPM should have long proposed a draft agreement on alliance formation because precisely the Liberal Democrats, who have won most of the votes [29.7%, which has ensured them 32 mandates in the 101-member Parliament of Moldova], must stand up with such initiative. Now we all are watching a chess game taking place between the LDPM and DP. The Democrats have an alternative. The Liberal Democrats are trying to keep the position-division situation under their full control. Yet one has the right to demand 51% state posts only when he wins state power in the country. I guess the Liberal Democrats should forget that power belongs only to them. They have not won the elections. The Communists haven’t, either, though they have more mandates than even the Liberal Democrats, but what’s the use of having 42 mandates if the Democrats decide to enter into an alliance with the Libe rals? And what’s the use for the Liberal Democrats to have 32 deputies in parliament, if the Democrats decide to form a majority coalition with the Communists?" wondered Mihai Ghimpu.<\/p>\n

He preferred to withhold the details of the tripartite negotiations of the Right-Centrist camp, which completed the 5th round of consultations on Monday. He only said that his Liberal Party is ready to yield to certain concessions for the sake of creating a Right-Centrist coalition.<\/p>\n

However, he said, there exist things, which the Liberals shall be strongly insisting on, such as e.g. at signing the would-be coalition agreement, the parties must clearly stipulate their attitude to the date of May 9 [1945 – the day of the Soviet Union’s victory over the Nazi Germany], to prohibition of Communist symbols in Moldova, to de-politicization of governmental posts except ministers’ ones, and to some other.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
