\nPrime Minister Vlad Filat today participated in the summit of the heads of government from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the government’s communications and press relations department has said.<\/p>\n

The event took place at the headquarters of the B.N. Yeltsin library from St Petersburg, Russia.<\/p>\n

The Moldovan delegation also includes Finance Minister Veaceslav Negruta, Deputy Foreign and European Integration Minister Natalia Gherman and Deputy Economics Minister Octavian Calmic.<\/p>\n

The summit started with a meeting of the CIS prime ministers. Subsequently, an enlarged meeting of the Council of the CIS heads of government was held, with the official delegations attending.<\/p>\n

At the beginning of the meeting, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin proposed that the CIS member states should sign an agreement on a CIS free trade zone. The document, which is to replace an agreement signed in 1994, is likely to be signed till late 2010.<\/p>\n

Also, the Russian prime minister recalled an initiative by Russia to open exhibition centres to promote goods from the CIS area. Vladimir Putin specified that the Russian side is willing to lease its exhibition centres for a 50-year period against a symbolic price of one rouble annually.<\/p>\n

In the first eight months of 2010, the trade operations between the CIS states grew by one third against 2009.<\/p>\n

The summit’s agenda included over 20 issues on cooperation within the Commonwealth. The participants summed up the results in 2010 and set the CIS’ objectives for the near future.<\/p>\n

At the summit, Prime Minister Vlad Filat and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin had a face-to-face meeting to discuss the whole spectrum of problems regarding bilateral relations.
