\nThe Liberal Party of Moldova (LP) has called on the Central Election Commission (CEC) to permit citizens voting in the November 28 elections on the basis of expired identity cards.<\/p>\n

During a press conference on Thursday, member of the LP National Council Octavian Apostol said according to the party’s information, over 150 thousand Moldovan citizens working abroad have expired documents.<\/p>\n

"The Election Code limits the constitutional citizens’ right of vote. Many our fellow citizens illegally came to the territory of other countries. They are not able to obtain a new pack of documents, so they will not have the possibility to vote. In spite of that citizens could vote with expired identity cards at last elections, the CEC made a decision too late. We ask the CEC to hurry up this time to have time to conduct the informational campaign overseas", Apostol said.<\/p>\n

Liberals said citizens who lost their passports can vote with the "white passport".<\/p>\n

"The urgent obtaining of such passport takes 3-4 days and costs 20 euros. We ask the CEC and respective ministries to find mechanisms for an urgent and free issuing of such passports", LP representative Roman Andries said.<\/p>\n

He also said representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration promised at a recent Congress of the Moldovan Diaspora to find means for this.<\/p>\n

The Liberal Party also asked the CEC to elaborate directions explaining the Code articles concerning voting of students and schoolchildren.<\/p>\n

"According to law, students and schoolchildren with the right of vote accepted to educational institutions of localities where they have no permanent or temporarily residence can vote in any polling station against presentation of student card or passport. But schoolchildren have not student, but school card. Legislators missed that in the law, what can also mislead electors and members of polling stations. We ask the CEC to indicate in the directions that students and schoolchildren can vote with passports and student cards, school cards or student mark books", Andries said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
