I think this movie is very important, that helps many of us to learn. Mr. Richard Dawkins approaches in his documentary big problems, related to raising population doubts towards the science based medicine, despite a whole series of successes, such as: vaccines, germ theory of disease, antibiotics and raising life expectancy.

I also think that enemies of the reason can manifest in some other fields of the social-human life, including politics and even history.

A veritable sample of this kind of enemy of reason is the article: „Stephen the Great would be happy that there are still in the Country of Moldova parties that promote Moldovans’ identity”, (on Unimedia.md), signed by Igor Dodon. (Stephen the Great – Ruler of Moldova between 1457 and 1504).

This kind of articles and attitudes easily remind me the words of Roger Dowson: „… when I read today something which seems to be outdated by next week, no use to waste my time" (in the book “Start to Efficiency”). But, if one looks more attentively at the words of Dodon, one can easily admit that this is something harder that demagogy, it is a kind of national consciousness vandalization process.

Let’s think altogether – how can we know that Stephen the Great would be happy that in the country of Moldova there are still parties that protect identity of Moldovans and Moldovan symbols?

Undoubtedly Stephen the Great was a big patriot and voivod, but I cannot think he was narrow-minded inasmuch as be dogmatic with regard to moldovenism as somebody’s doing today. I would also try to be the „clairvoyant” and say that should Stephen the Great know that there is also the European Union, where Romania has been already accepted, he would certainly not put to doubt the global trends and the stance of the international scientific community about the non-existence of the „Moldovan language”. I think that Stephen the Great wouldn’t be arduously supporting the idea of keeping a nation (as it is that of the Republic of Moldova today) hostage to some whims of group interests, who allow to name themselves „political parties”.

Dodon and others of his category understand very well that the problem consists not so much in the need to unify with Romania, as in joining in the EU, we cannot access without a good neighborhood with Romania. But it is not only this issue. In our rapports with Romania we could not explain the need of a good relation only because of its placement on the west of the R.M., but also due to elementary reasons – any normal person needs to be in good relations with one’s neighbors, first of all, and with all the others, inasmuch as it is possible to upkeep normal relations. Normal relations in the modern world are established based on criteria that are much different from those of hundreds of years ago, during Stephen the Great’s times.

Rudolf Steiner in his book “Challenge of the Times” writes that: „"Human beings in various parts of the earth differ from one another, and in the future this differentiation will increase. Utterly unreal thoughts are expressed by one, therefore, who supposes that it is possible to proceed socially in the same way in Russia, China, South America, Germany or France." Thus, once we have been having more similarities, both in terms of culture, language and many relations from the old times with Romania, why should we claim we do not see these facts? Would we be “smarter” or more „rational” in face of the world, should we ignore this fact?

Dodon and others from his cohort understand very well that in the R.M. there are quite reasonable people, who neither can nor see the essence of „pushing” the problem of unification with Romania, just because we cannot negotiate from the stance of Germany it used to have, on the eve of its reunification. But, on the other hand, it would be absurd and irresponsible not to set this goal to develop this kind of capacities in a certain future. The subject of eventual reunification is similarly “sensitive” in discussions even among the influential circles in Bucharest. Thus, normally, we are facing a dilemma – is it more reasonable to start knocking somebody’s doors and „beg” or just focus on development dimensions which offer us bigger chances of both (i) integration into the EU and up-keep our human dignity and (iii) maintain good relations with everybody inasmuch as „we are not too much different”, to come to terms.

On the other hand, however, excluding totally this subject from the agenda for a mere reason to meet the whims like those of the Moldovan communists, would be not only ridiculous on our behalf – all of us would get “qualified” as enemies of reason. This might mean that we are still in the pre-medieval epoch and are not aware of elementary trends at global level and what could be the implications of an eventual dogmatic approach of the “need to be separated” and „independent”, even by risking to keep the Moldovan population in “vivacious” poverty. Or, as I have perceived also before, even the former “chiefs” of the country of the R.M., are not fully aware of which could be a good definition of independence.

Over and above the mentioned so far, what should concern us most of all is – (i) how can communists display so much hatred and speak so much mean things about Romania, even when from beyond the Prut river convoys of trucks come, loaded with construction materials for the Bessarabian flood victims?

(ii) How can they claim to get public offices, when in their discourses and attitudes nothing can be traced out but lack of rationale and lack of constructivism?

(iii) What future can we have if we stay indifferent towards aggressive manifestations of those who, by everything they do, destroy societal capacities to reason?

Reading Time: 4 minutesThe title above was borrowed from a renowned British scientist – Richard Dawkins – who produced a documentary entitled „Enemies of reason”.
