Chisinau (Moldova.ORG) – While being an active actor in education it has got to my hearing opinions, from persons who consider themselves to be opinion leaders in the Moldovan education system, that disciplines like: (i) economics of education and (ii) educational marketing, have emerged on the background of excessive „pragmatization” of the contemporary world. I will dare to say – no – and I believe that now I have even more grounds than before, in taking this stance.<\/p>\n

The Republic of Moldova is in a period of new opportunities, one of them being “magnum opusal” – the initiative launched by the Mrs. Chancellor Angela Merkel to Russia with regard to Transnistria (the self-styled breakaway region of Moldova). This initiative is surprising inasmuch as proving and convincing that in the modern world pragmatism cannot be associated exclusively with something irrational and mean. Mrs. Merkel’s political gesture constitutes an evidence, and also an educational benefit, for many generations to come, that pragmatism can and must have rational forms of manifestation, and that it is a lesson not only for politology faculties and other schools, but also for many leaders who have had “whole mandates” in office as chiefs of states, and could not manage to distinguish those two notions of fundamental importance for a good peaceful coexistence of people in the future, even if sometimes seems unpredictable.<\/p>\n

The thoughts above are also a continuation of a very recent article, an effort of the New York Times: „Challenging Russia to Fix a Frozen Feud”, signed by Judy Dempsey. The article reflects the situation in the R.M. in a lucid manner, inasmuch as few politicians from Chisinau could do. It is explainable why, but this could be the topic of another discussion.<\/p>\n

In the articles it is truthfully mentioned that Transnistria is metaphorically associated with a „swath” which can have also good essence… should there be seeded good thoughts and intentions about this territory. Once we have gone through experiences as we know, anyway, it would be good to at least valorize the time as a lesson, from this unhappy case, and capitalize the lesson for the future, not least in the sense to eventually specify – who deserves gratitude.<\/p>\n

The article also mentions about the raised attention to the R.M., on behalf of the EU, also by its Special Envoy – Kalman Mizsei, and, even if speculations on this initiative continue, it would be an incommensurable loss for the population of the R.M., shouldn’t it be aware to understand that, in a big extent, it depends on us too, that this kind of initiatives do not emerge “out of blue air” and that we need to display responsibility and civic maturity.<\/p>\n

We, the population of the R.M. – cannot stay indefinitely on the stance of „somebody incapable”. We face the opportunity, the chance, emerged as implication of Mrs. Chancellor’s initiative, which deserves a particular attention in our history, to be considered as a commencement of a new epoch – Merkel epoch. Once we get the point of using the word epoch in a positive sense, as opposed to what we have used to know it before, it is essential to enjoy the whole package of benefits: a good lesson, epochal initiative and a model worthy of being followed for the good of the generations to come, and mutually advantageous.<\/p>\n

The fact the Merkel epoch from the very beginning is being marked by attractiveness, inasmuch as actively joined in by the French President Mr. Sarkozy, and also some other world ranked office holders, it creates a solid basis not only for recurrent “window-dressing” negotiations, but also an example of diplomacy which in convincing to admit even more, what I wanted to say from the very beginning – it is not pragmatism to blame upon but human capacities to perceive it.<\/p>\n

It would be improper to think this can be easy. We shouldn’t forget that we, Russians including, are coming from a system worthy of “mutual sympathy”, where it was possible to consolidate mostly stereotypes rather than economies, in the social consciousness, in which the Republic of Moldova used to be seen at least as a „glubinka” (out-of-the-way place) from Russia and… „forgotten, betrayed again and again” from Chisinau and to much extent from Bucharest, the Merkel epoch will be a new page and will outline, not least important, an answer to the question – to what extent can we follow the absurdity of „nations’ fraternity” as mere illusion, versus weighing it on the same scale with the rational pragmatism.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
