A healthy ecosystem can be maintained only with the support of all forces streamlined towards Moldova’s alignment to a European life style. This implies the greening of all social-economic events and actions in line with the laws of nature. Parliament Speaker, acting President Mihai Ghimpu made this statement at festivities dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the State Environment Inspectorate, the presidential press service has said.<\/p>\n

Ghimpu said that besides the legislative basis adjusted to the model of sustainable development, the effective greening of the Republic of Moldova needs a well-structured and functional national environmental control, that would secure the functionality of the state’s environmental policies. "Presently, it is important to understand that each citizen, each institution, each organization, and first of all, local public administration bodies are responsible for the protection of the environment. Thus, the greening is a fully conscious policy, which had became a state policy, being continuously consolidated," the acting president said.<\/p>\n

Mihai Ghimpu also specified that natural disasters, such as floods, landslides or the danger of disappearance of some species of plants and animals are a direct result of unreasonable human interventions, which have negatively influenced the natural balance. Given these facts, the today’s generations have the task to rectify the situation, as in some cases, the adopted decisions will have a long-term impact, the acting president said. "It is very important that the state’s policies meet the time’s needs and sufficient measures and actions meant to improve the situation of Moldova’s environment should be considered. Of course, budgetary allocations to this end are still poor, but there are, for sure, unused internal resources and a string of possibilities to access funds within national and international environmental programmes," the head of state said.<\/p>\n

Mihai Ghimpu said that progress in this sector can be made only by correctly applying all legal levers and by adequately managing the resources of the environmental fund.
