Mihai Ghimpu shall continue working as the nation’s acting president until the convocation of a new parliament, namely until the new forum has elected its speaker.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, Ghimpu convened a news conference to brief the media on some essential things related to the forthcoming elections. He said, in particular, that shortly after the November 28 polls, he will convoke the new Parliament – within maximum 30 days.<\/p>\n

"The first question on the forum’s agenda will be the election of speaker. This work done, the new speaker becomes an acting president ad interim, "if only the Parliament does not elect a new President of Moldova on the same day". And prime minister may become an acting president only if there is no speaker.<\/p>\n

"As you see, I am still alive, and I am working", Ghimpu said in response to media stories that upon parliament dissolution the acting president’s functions allegedly go automatically to prime minister.<\/p>\n

Ghimpu said that the outgoing Parliament is eligible to pass parliamentary resolutions and ordinary laws – until the elections, and the current Parliament’s Permanent Bureau will decide which bills will be adopted by November 26 inclusive.<\/p>\n

"First and foremost, we are looking forward to hearing the verdict of the ad hoc commission for de-immunization of MPs Vladimir Voronin and Anatol Popusoi. Also, the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Ministry of the Interior are supposed to submit to parliament their report on investigation into the April 7, 2009 events", stressed Ghimpu.<\/p>\n

In his words, he would like very much to have the Alliance for European Integration run for parliament as a mighty united voting bloc, but he has to obey to the decision of a majority in the Alliance, according to which each of the 4 parties will be running for parliament independently.<\/p>\n

Ghimpu criticized Prime Minister Vladimir Filat for his being absent from the AEI meeting on Tuesday morning, and voiced regret that the Alliance has failed to convert the Republic of Moldova into a law-governed and democratic state.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
