In this regard it comes to my mind a TV show «Chto, Gde, Kogda?» („What, Where, When?”), on one of the Russian channels, when a spectator asked the connoisseurs – „What happens when the majority of the smart people give up?”.

There followed debates, etc., the connoisseurs gave their answers, interpretations, did not guess, and then the answer of the spectator followed: „If a majority of smart people give up – stupidity prevails”. In this sense, the educational system of the R.M. has a heavy word to say, which in the longer run would profile an essential component of the social life, which is called meritocracy.

Unfortunately somebody thinks that in our case performance could be reached without values and meritocracy.

Should we relate the words of the TV spectator, of the show mentioned above, to political space, I think she also wanted to say that there’s much indifference manifested towards politics, on behalf of the people with credible human values, this is why we have life quality as it is. We have heard a lot during the years…, that

(i) the education needs to be depoliticized,

(ii) that we should not politicize our language problem,

(iii) that „practice beats grammar” (i.e. that practice matters more than theory), etc.

All of the above have had one aim – to justify some „ideas” which are not true, or at least they are not discussed any more, because everything is clear by itself. There is no education beyond politics as there should not be politics without a due education; preferably happy one, according to Erasmus.

Recently we have heard another „pearl” – that „Chisinau is obliged to have good relations with Moscow”.

For may who still understand something in Lupu’s words, in terms of style and essence, it sounds as „non-refined” as the words of the “brigade leaders” in the villages of soviet time Moldova, about 30 years ago – „Come to the fields!!!”.

There is, nevertheless a difference – the words of the brigade leaders used to be said by people who would not claim to become president of a country, neither who would had been chairman of Parliament for quite some time. Why should we be indifferent of the fact that a party leader behaves with a whole country just as a „soviet brigade leader” used to do 30 years ago?

I mentioned above about values, and involuntarily was thinking of a value system of a western country, which I read and discussed very recently (I will not name which country), whose system comprises, among others: truth, honor, fidelity, discipline and duty, self-reliance…, and was thinking – is it possible to make economic performance in the R.M. without honor at the level of state politics?

I think… very improbable, and, what kind of honor could we discuss about when a leader of a political party comes back from Russia with threats and ultimatums, also vociferating that: „we are on our own”, while knowing very well and being aware that the EU committed to provide financial support for implementing the governmental program "Re-boosting Moldova"?

For this aim, the European donors have offered an amount of two billion Euros. It would be a sin, in this regard, not to consider the other renowned western donors, beyond EU, who provide support of huge worth.

After I have heard Lupu’s words, I understand that for us the problem stems not so much from the fact that Russia has interests, as in (i) the way this interests are expressed and (ii) the fact that we have „politicians” who can be servile to that extent, to someone’s interests, in such a rude manner, with no refinement and political culture.

Marian Lupu reproaches to the head of Moldovan foreign policy, that allegedly: „Unfortunately our foreign policy is not carried out, many times… for the citizens”. I still believe he is still “right” in this regard, strictly inasmuch as we can refer it to himself personally, because indeed, while the West offers support and other partnership initiatives, on the other hand „envoys” come, like Lupu, and Smirnov in Tiraspol (Transnistrian secessionist leader). Indeed, „The economic development can be reached without sacrificing the foreign policy interests, [and] for this it is necessary to avail of mature, professional and responsible politicians, who know to consider the importance a privileged relation…”, but, the relations should not be privileged according to any other criteria, except for national interests, of the population one represents, even if in the country one represents only one segment of voters.

The latter does „fill in” a certain segment of the political space, but who should care about the national interest dimension?
