Recently signed agreement between the Democrat Party of Moldova and "United Russia", in Moscow, by Marian Lupu, marks a new experience for the R.M., and probably for the perception of our country in the eyes of our development partners.<\/p>\n

Like any novelty, the first reaction is a „suspense”, after which there is a certain trend in a way or another. What is going to be the dynamism of the Democrat Party one can anticipate, but in order to avoid risking to derail on the path of some prejudice, and starting from the assumption that we already have too many stereotypes in our thinking, we would like to get rid of, I would rather abstain and let the time equip us with some more arguments, in a way or other.<\/p>\n

At least by this move of Mr. Lupu it is obvious there is still somebody who double-crosses in the R.M. with regard to European line (i) values (ii) and (iii) our country integration into the circuit of western civilization; it is more clearer who wishes what to Moldova.<\/p>\n

Reactions were not expected too long and one can see that of the Stratfor news agency (that the agreement will weaken the unity of the pro-European coalition in the electoral campaign).<\/p>\n

Anyway, as it was expected, the „AEI quartet” could not be in “unison” to the absurd. In some dimensions there is total harmony, on some of them – discrepancies, and I think that this way, even if there is not reached the tempo one could expect – the population has a critical lesson to learn – of living in conditions of political pluralism, which is interpreted by some people as: „uncertainty of the AEI”, „confusions”, etc.<\/p>\n

Anyway, the value of this period is undoubted – more ideas are heard, and the more ideas emerge, the higher probability of emerging ideas of good quality. Isn’t this something what we want? Why should we believe that subtle and unbalanced moves might be a good option for the R.M. and the region we live? Anyway, much more sustainable are decisions made in longer time-spans and „weather-beaten” ones, in conditions of natural and healthy pluralism, versus those taken in short time-spans, stirred-up by populist impulses, and which imply new crises… again and again.<\/p>\n

Of course we cannot help taking into account Lupu’s declarations, after the signing event, that: „The EU is still far” from Moldova and that „Europe and the world are in a deep economic crisis”; willy-nilly it makes me believe that in politics there is much more amusement than one could think. May be this is even better because laughing healthily is useful, on any social and politico-economic dimensions of the R.M., more over when such declaration is made by a person who considers to be „economist”.<\/p>\n

More exactly – doesn’t Mr. Lupu understand that the difference between the crisis in the “word” he refers to and that of Europe is huge? The huge difference of those two crises is also an involvement o values laying as background for the respective society –<\/p>\n

(i) if there is any integrity among the politicians and a societal majority,<\/p>\n

(ii) if there is any corruption,<\/p>\n

(iii) if there is any vision,<\/p>\n

(iv) if there is any honor? etc.<\/p>\n

And depending on the values we adhere to, depends very much who will we be, and how will we live, even in a relatively near future. It is particularly this category of voters who Mr. Lupu speculates for – those who do not understand what values mean and how much it matters for economic development first of all. The values we equip with matter in terms of who will be the circle of development partners in the future, what is the extent of our certainty. We have seen already what has been previously. <\/p>\n

I think it would not be “very well” to expect from the AEI an absolute „unison”. We come from a system where we had no permission to think pluralistically, we had no right and, respectively, we did not know how to learn almost anything of those who used to „teach” us that it used to be fine the way it was…, this is why we face many changes with fear.<\/p>\n

Anyway, the transition from facing news with fear towards facing news with curiosity and fascination, was unavoidable, for us, and we have to pass it through soonest. What we need to take care of is that this transition be as efficient as possible.<\/p>\n

It is this kind of thoughts that are suggested by James B. Stockdale’s quotation: „ A liberally educated person meets new ideas with curiosity and fascination. An illiberally [i.e. oppressive based] educated person meets new ideas with fear”.
