Despite difficulties the R.M. goes through, our people has always been wise enough to be grateful for the assistance provided, regardless of who it was provided by. Another problem is, that, this people being receptive and tolerant, inasmuch as it is, somebody tries to impose take as „assistance” the<\/p>\n

(i) manipulative blackmail,<\/p>\n

(ii) it’s being occupied in certain historical periods,<\/p>\n

(iii) occupation of a part of its country’s territory, more recently, and, (iv) brutal violation of some fundamental rights, etc.; but this is a separate subject.<\/p>\n

Today I want to speak about gratitude towards the veritable good granted to the Moldovan people and what kind of implications it may have, should this people not be well enough informed, or informed “post-factum”.<\/p>\n

The TV Channel Publica.TV published a useful piece of news, that „from the state budget for the Referendum of September 5 have been allocated MDL 33 mln.”. For the overwhelming majority of the Moldovan population this amount is substantial, frankly speaking.<\/p>\n

Being one of those who promoted convincingly the importance of the referendum and being aware of the situation emerged after its failure, on the very next day I got to know something that makes me worry – why didn’t we know long before, and … what about gratitude?<\/p>\n

The piece of news is that the EU granted the R.M. a 4 mln. Euro assistance for the „Program on deploying 80 short-term observers abroad”, at some 40 voting stations, as part of the initiative of Moldovan NGOs, funded in the frame of the Democracy Support Program. It is also mentioned that it is coordinated by two NGOs – Promo-Lex and “Mo\u015ftenitorii”- and there is a core-team in Chi\u015fin\u0103u and 80 short-term observers assigned in teams of 2 persons in 11 countries, as follows: Belgium – 1 team, the Czech Republic – 1 team, Greece – 3 teams, France – 2 teams, Germany – 3 teams, Italy – 14 teams, Portugal – 3 teams, Romania – 6 teams, Russian Federation – 4 teams, Spain – 2 teams, Ukraine – 1 team).<\/p>\n

The observation mission was supposed to assess the referendum process for its compliance with the Moldovan legislation and international standards. The observers monitored the opening of polling stations, the voting, the counting of ballots and the tabulation of results.<\/p>\n

To a big extent the problem is that the large majority of the population might have not known about this non-reimbursable financial grant on behalf of the EU, aimed to give the citizens of the R.M. a chance to determine and express themselves on an essential issue for their future.<\/p>\n

However, the big problem is the fact that the EU, like any other donor-country, grants this money from the tax payments of citizens of member-countries and, by the fact that the communists boycotted the voting so rudely, it is the people as a whole who might be perceived as being „callous” and „irresponsible” for these results.<\/p>\n

I wonder, didn’t the communist leaders of the R.M. know that EU would make this considerable cost to provide the chance to exercise a fundamental right in a transparent and fair way?<\/p>\n

I personally think that after 8 years of PCRM’s governing, an eventual unawareness of this is virtually impossible and excluded. Thus, the aim of the CPRM in this “mysterious game“ was more than that – to cause eventual disappointment for the EU including, in granting finance to support the R.M. in this hard process of learning democracy, inasmuch as the people do not keep into account that:<\/p>\n

(i) there is money granted for support,<\/p>\n

(ii) not being able to gain from this money and<\/p>\n

(iii) neither know that the people have had chances that are missed,<\/p>\n

(iv) to be aware that eventually trying to run a referendum without the support of the EU might cost us much-much more, and that eventually<\/p>\n

(v) lead us to the situation when we do not know when and what chances we may have at all…<\/p>\n

Is this the kind of “love towards the people” displayed by the communists… (?!) This makes very suspicious the “praises” voiced by the communists that the people has been so „wise” for having not taken part in the referendum. An elementary estimate shows us that these 4 mln. Euro are equal to MDL 62 803 600,0.<\/p>\n

I wouldn’t have tried to approach this problem this way should have come to voting stations those over 70% of the population, as was forecasted by the results of the previous survey, and some majority would have voted „against” electing the president of the country by the whole people. In that case there wouldn’t have been the deed and\/or guilt of the CPRM in form of „boycott”, as label of intimidation and exercising pressures, which in scientific terms can easily be qualified as – manipulative blackmail. This has been exercised to destabilize the due running of the life of the poor people of Moldova, by means of treacherous and perplex … „love towards the people”.<\/p>\n

It is not accidental that the communists have been struggling against the intellectuals ever since their existence. They are fully aware that their chances to exist as political formation, here, is inversely proportional to this population growing in terms of specific knowledge, that are necessary for living in a democracy and welfare, versus the period dominated by their, communists’ dictatorship.<\/p>\n

Willy-nilly it comes to my mind Erasmus, who long ago in 1529 in one of his works used the notion of unhappy education, as follows: „ It is an unhappy education which teaches the master mariner the rudiments of navigation by shipwrecks…”. Is the “education” offered by the communists to the people of the R.M., to learn democracy by means of boycotts – happy?<\/p>\n

What shall we do if in line with many other problems we lose the ability of being grateful?
