Given that official representatives of other states consider that they may officially mark in Tiraspol such events which caused tragic conflicts not only in Moldova, but also in their countries, I think that this gesture may undermine these states’ authority as partners to settle the frozen conflicts in the ex-Soviet area, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Victor Osipov told journalists.<\/p>\n

The declaration was made after Russian Ambassador to Moldova Valeriy Kuzmin had congratulated the Transnistrian residents over the 20th anniversary of the breakaway Transnistrian republic on behalf of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The Noviy Region agency has said that, in his speech, Kuzmin suggested that the conflict’s settlement is presently dragged by forces from Chisinau and Bucharest. He stressed that, in Russia’s opinion, the sides should occupy equal positions at the table of dialogue, and Transnistria should benefit by a secure guaranteed special status.<\/p>\n

In these circumstances, the deputy prime minister said that Moldova is a subject of international law, and under this aspect, equality between the latter and the unconstitutional formation from eastern Moldova is out of the question. At the same time, Osipov emphasized that, at the table of negotiations, the sides, in their capacity of participants in the dialogue, are already equal sides. He explained that the sides have the same rights to set forth their positions, present the arguments – a thing that is known by all the participants.<\/p>\n

Osipov said that, presently, it would not be correct to say that the re-launch of the official talks depends on Chisinau and Tiraspol. "This fact depends only on Tiraspol, which refuses official negotiations for the Transnistrian conflict settlement. We thing that we should overcome this situation," the deputy prime minister said.<\/p>\n

Osipov reiterated the Moldovan government’s position, by which the states’ official representatives are called on to abstain from accepting invitations to participate in events organized by the Tiraspol authorities. The official said that the latter "celebrate an action of division, the initiation of a separatist-oriented process which triggered a conflict, and that is part of a vaster phenomenon in the ex-Soviet area, as it affects more newly created states following the collapse of the Soviet Union."<\/p>\n
